Campbell Soup Kids
by Linda C Butler
Grace Drayton (1877 – 1936) was an illustrator who created the Campbell Soup Kids advertising campaign. She also created a series of paper dolls called Dolly Dingle in the women’s magazine, Pictorial Review.
This group of family children resemble a group of children that Grace could have assembled for Campbell’s Soup Kids or the Dolly Dingle crew. They look like they would be fun to be with. Can you imagine the photographer trying to keep them still while he took the picture?
They are (left to right) Joyce Turner, Gladys Turner, Steve Vance, Willie Boyd and Reta Boyd. Center children are: Pearl Vance, Charlie Vance. circa 1913.
These are Dollie Dingle and Campbell Soup Kids images:
Dollie Dingle is still popular today and digital copies of the vintage Dollie Dingle cutouts can be purchased from Digital Paper Dolls.
