Uncle Danny Vance — Obit

Joseph Daniel Vance was born December 27, 1914.  He was born at Spy Hill, Sask., the son of Allen and Emily Vance who were originally from Ontario.

They moved to Pathlow, Sk, and later to Melfort where Danny resided until his passing. On October 27, 1973, Danny and Corriene Little were married in Melfort, Sk. They were blessed with two children: a son Terry, and a daughter Emily. Danny was a kind and loving husband and father and had a deep Christian faith.

Danny worked for many farmers in the district and is well remembered for his expertise in sharpening harrow teeth. He was always ready to give a helping hand.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife, Corriene; son, Terry (Bev) ; daughter, Emily (Fabian) ; two grandchildren, Celina and Jason; brothers and sisters Pearl Riddell of Winnipeg MB, Myrtle Forsyth of Fort Langley BC, Allen Vance of Moose Jaw SK, Steve Vance of Winnipeg MB; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Charlie Vance of Chilliwack BC.

IN LOVING MEMORY

DANIEL JOSEPH VANCE
Born December 27, 1914
Passed Away May 12, 1995

Funeral service was held in the Church of the Nazarene, Melfort, Sask.,
on Wednesday, May 17th, 1995 at 2pm with Rev. John Hannem officiating.
Internment followed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Pallbearers were:
Raymond Little, Henry Little, Jr., Phillip Little, Wallace Little, Kevin Little, Al Strobel

The Family expressed appreciation to all who attended the funeral service.
Melfort Funeral Home was in charge.

Uncle Danny was named in honor of his great-grandfather Joseph, born in Scotland in 1807, and/or his father’s uncle Joseph, born in 1840.

His mother would have moved to Pathlow with the younger children after she was a widow, likely as a housekeeper for some farmer.

I dimly remember him as a bachelor living in a tiny shack on the outskirts of Melfort, but we rarely went to see him. He had a slight speech impediment, a very nasal sound to his voice, that made him a bit hard to understand. He came to Moose Jaw with his bride by bus to visit us all soon after they were married. I’m thinking that, like his brother Allen, he never owned a vehicle.

Emily was born Jan 1, 1974 and Terry on Jan 1st a year later. Uncle Danny was proud as punch to have two new Year’s babies in a row.
